Bitcoin casino deposits and withdrawals: how they work

Bitcoin lets you deposit and withdraw without a bank in between. The key things to understand are addresses, confirmations, network fees and price movement.

Depositing with Bitcoin

The casino cashier shows a Bitcoin deposit address, often with a QR code. You send BTC from your own wallet or exchange account to that address. The deposit is credited after the transaction receives the number of network confirmations the casino requires.

Fees and speed

Bitcoin network fees are paid to miners and rise when the network is busy. A transaction with a low fee can take longer to confirm. The casino may add its own withdrawal fee or minimum amount, which is shown in the cashier.

Because BTC's price changes, the value of your balance in euros or dollars can move between deposit and withdrawal.

Bitcoin fees and confirmations

Fees depend on size, not amount

A Bitcoin fee depends on how much data the transaction takes up and on demand, not on how much money you send.

Confirmations

A new block is added about every ten minutes on average. Each block on top of yours is one more confirmation.

A transaction that is stuck

Some wallets can raise the fee of an unconfirmed transaction (Replace-by-Fee) so that it is picked up sooner.

Safety checklist

  • Send only BTC on the Bitcoin network to a Bitcoin address.
  • Copy and paste addresses and check the first and last characters.
  • Make a small test transaction the first time.
  • Never share your wallet's recovery phrase with anyone.
